Dancing at home has always been a favorite pastime. It relieves stress, celebrates life, brings people together, and allows us to express ourselves. Now more than ever thanks to COVID, we need this! But without public spaces to dance in, the expectations and habits have changed.
Here are 5 great tips to experience the benefits of Dancing At Home!
1 - Create a Routine
Putting dance into your daily routine has tremendous benefits, especially when you practice at your peak energy times. Whether it's after a small meal, a few hours after sleeping, or late at night, find the time that is right for you and make it part of your day. Give yourself 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted dancing bliss.
2 - Set personal goals
We all know how we can improve ourselves, so write down what you want to accomplish and how soon you hope to do it. For example: better balance on 1 leg (Passe en releve) and set a goal to increase the time you can stabilize your body and hold that body. Use all the tips you have received through your dance training and don't forget to make the goal balanced. Your body will thank you later in life for taking care of being strong on both sides.
3 - Use technology to teach yourself
Use your phone to videotape yourself dancing, especially when you can't see yourself do it, such as a pirouette turn. Put the video on slow motion and watch every little nuance of the step to find ways to improve.
4 - Create Your Dance Space
It's difficult to dance at home, especially when space is tight. So move a few furniture items and/or use the space in creative ways. For example, a doorway may be a perfect frame for stretching, or a couch can help your back limber. Rugs and sharp corners are not your friend for dancing, so push them to the side or remove them.
5 - Dress The Part
Sometimes what we wear makes us want to move, like tap shoes or a circle skirt. We want to use them and feel what it can do. So, put on those ballet slippers or hip hop pants and crank your favorite music! Just putting on the clothing and shoes can switch your mindset to dancing, then add your favorite music to dance to and get to work!
There are endless tips to make dancing possible ANYWHERE. So while we're spending more time at home, let's keep sharing ways to do it!
