In 1992, a vision was born in Orange County, California: to create a place for exceptional dance education. What started as Mission Viejo Dance & Performing Arts Center has since evolved into South Coast Conservatory, Orange County's premier conservatory for dance and performing arts. Our journey is a testament to the power of passion and an unwavering dedication to excellence.

A Legacy of Growth and Excellence

Our story is built on a series of transformative moments, each one a step toward becoming the institution we are today.

1992: The Beginning

We opened our doors as Mission Viejo Dance & Performing Arts Center, committed to providing top-tier dance education.

1998: Growing Community

Our growing community led us to a new, larger location in Laguna Niguel.

2002: New Leadership

The studio found new leadership under Jena Minnick-Bull, whose vision expanded opportunities and set a new course for the future.

2007: Recognition and Growth

We were named “Best Dance Studio” by the OC Register and enhanced our capabilities by adding an in-house theater.

2010: Foundation and Tradition

We established the non-profit Dance Discovery Foundation, launched a comprehensive teacher training program, and began our beloved annual production of “The Nutcracker.”

2011: Expanding Facilities

Our facilities grew to include an 8th studio, a retail store, and a Pilates room, alongside the start of our scholarship programs.

2013: Rebranding for Excellence

We rebranded to South Coast Conservatory to better reflect our focus on pre-professional training.

2017: Decade of Excellence

We celebrated a decade-long streak of being awarded “Best Dance Studio”and had five finalists at both the Dance Awards and Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) in New York.

2019: Continued Expansion

We continued to expand by adding a 9th studio, an Acro/Aerial gym, and saw 23 finalists at the Dance Awards and YAGP.

2020: Business Recognition

We were honored as “Small Business of the Year” by the California Assembly and launched our “Industry Nights” training programs.

2021: Dedicated Programs

We established 4 dedicated Conservatory Programs in Commercial Dance, Ballet, Musical Theatre, and Aerial Arts.

2022: Arts Integration

Our Dance Discovery Foundation expanded to include a new Dance & Drama program, merging theatrical arts with our dance education.

Announcing Our Next Chapter: V&T Dance Academy

Today, we are thrilled to announce a significant new milestone in our journey. In 2025, we have officially merged with V&T Dance Academy, welcoming their incredible teachers and families into the South Coast Conservatory family. This expansion is more than just a merger; it is a coming together of shared values and a commitment to nurturing talent and passion.

This partnership allows us to expand our community and continue to provide unparalleled opportunities for our students and educators. The new V&T Dance Academy location in Laguna Hills will offer the same high standards of training and joyful environment that are hallmarks of South Coast Conservatory. Together, we look forward to reaching new heights and shaping the next generation of performers in Orange County.

This merger represents not just growth, but the continuation of our mission to change lives through dance. We're excited to welcome the V&T Dance Academy community and continue building on our legacy of excellence in dance education.
